The grandparent or provider caring for the child should use a spiral bound notebook or a clipboard and paper and make observations throughout the day of the child’s activities.
At the end of the day or week, you can share that activity log with the child’s parents so they understand their child’s developmental progress.
Your notes don’t need to be lengthy paragraphs. They can be short sentences or even just a few words about the child’s activity.
To make it easier, you can come up with a one-page sheet which you can copy and use for each day’s notes. You can include categories for such things as times of the day (morning, lunch time, play time, snack time, nap time) and for areas of concern such as bathroom issues, behavioral issues, emotional concerns, new interests, etc.
You can even personalize the notebooks with a Polaroid photo of the child. A personalized activity log full of a child’s milestones can become a keepsake the parents will cherish for years to come. |
