Music can be a great tool to evaluate whether children might have any speech or language delays. You can observe if a child might be falling behind their expected developmental level through “echo” songs – songs in which the leader sings part of a song, and the children repeat part of the song back.
Songs of Steve and Greg, such as, “If You’re Happy And You Know It” and “She’ll Be Coming ‘Round The Mountain” use repetition throughout which make it easier for children to be able to hone their language skills. Listening to children’s participation during these songs will help you assess whether a child might be experiencing any speech or language difficulties.
